Words From Our Principal, Troy LaBarbara…
It is my honor to serve as the principal of Lecanto High School and to welcome you to the 2025–2026 school year. With more than three decades of experience in education, I remain deeply committed to ensuring every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
My career began in 1993 as a special education teacher, where I spent 16 years in the classroom before moving into leadership roles as an assistant principal, principal, district-level administrator, and most recently Assistant Superintendent of Academics for the Martin County School District. Over the years, I have been privileged to serve students, staff, and families at every level, always guided by the belief that strong schools are built on collaboration, high expectations, and relationships.
I am proud to have been named Hernando County’s Principal of the Year in 2020 and to have trained with the Brian Dassler Leadership Academy as well as the National Institute for School Leadership. My work has included leading school improvement efforts, designing and implementing professional learning systems, mentoring principals, and collaborating with local agencies to ensure students with disabilities receive the services and support they deserve.
Throughout my career, I have valued partnerships with families, local businesses, and community organizations, recognizing that education is most powerful when we work together. I believe in cultivating schools where students not only achieve academically but also develop character, leadership, and a sense of purpose.
Here at Lecanto High School, we have much to celebrate. Together, our Panthers have helped move our school grade from a “C” to a “B”, a direct reflection of your hard work, the dedication of our highly effective teaching staff, and the support of our Panther community. While we are proud of this growth, it is only the beginning. We will continue to challenge ourselves, always aiming higher.
This year, I encourage every student to hold themselves to high standards, attend consistently, and take full advantage of the many opportunities our school offers. From the International Baccalaureate program and the Lecanto School of the Arts to Army JROTC, athletics, agriculture, welding, culinary, and our outstanding performing arts, there is a pathway for every Panther to discover their strengths and passions.
I am proud of this community, proud of our students, and excited about the year ahead. Together, we will continue to build on our successes, support one another, and keep Panther Pride alive and strong.
Please remember, “There is no end to what we can do together.” – Paul McCartney
